By Pastor Chris Simmons

Know always that God’s Grace, Mercy, and Peace are yours through Jesus Christ.

  • What is something you put a lot of practice hours into? An instrument? A Sport? A skill?

  • When you think of that “something” do you consider it with Joy or contempt? Why?

Ephesians 1: 17-18
17
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people…

I mentioned this in my devotion yesterday, “”Familiarity breeds Contempt”, that’s when the extensive knowledge of someone or something causes a loss of respect for that someone/something. It can happen in our lives, as that one person does that thing that ALWAYS bothers us. Maybe that car of yours has that ONE THING about it that drives you up the wall. Maybe a skill you have or possess and you feel everyone should just be able to get it.

Jesus knows everything about us… that’s what makes the love we receive from Him on the cross so incredible and beyond our understanding. He gave Himself knowing the depth of our sin. Even with His Familiarity with us… He brings love.

18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you. A prayer that what you're familiar with becomes a strength. And since Jesus knows the extent of who we are and loves us anyway…  that we see one another as the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.

Prayer

Lord God, you know the depths of our souls and how we are, and still give yourself for us anyway. Thank you for your forgiveness, please open the eyes of our hearts to see and recognize the opportunity to love others the same. We pray this in your name Jesus. Amen.
